Among the dermatological ailments affecting one in a lifetime, skin eczema has the highest rate of incidence. This ailment is a form of dermatitis, manifested by the swelling of the skin. It is also generally believed that eczema is a wide term used to refer to all sorts of persistent dermatological conditions. One can recognize skin eczema by the skin redness and dryness, the swelling of the affected areas, the appearance of blisters, flakes, cracks and crusts with the risk of bleeding as well. Not very often, manifestations like skin discoloration caused by some of the healed lesions might occur sometimes accompanied by scarring.

Skin eczema can appear with all age groups. It affects children and adults alike; yet it seems to be more frequent in the case of babies. Unfortunately what exactly causes this condition is still not known. What researchers have discovered is that this disease contains a genetics-related aspect that cannot be denied. Therefore, we are very likely to come down with eczema if we come from a family with a history of this condition.

In the absence of an apparent cause, the treatment of skin eczema can only be symptomatic: which means that the manifestations are kept under control but the risk of recurrence remains. In order to identify the right remedy, a diagnosis for the typology will follow. The treatment is focused on the patient’s medical history and the gravity of the condition. The medicines that doctors usually recommend in eczema cases are meant to reduce the itching, limit the inflammation of the skin, remove the lesions and, in case of infections, clear them up. Besides, if only one treatment is not sufficient a combination of different therapies could be the solution.

In addition to the doctor’s prescribed medicines, the patient may influence positively the evolution of the disease or act in the direction of prevention. You should avoid scratching even if it itches badly, plus it is always good to moisturize the affected skin area. Then, don’t allow skin contact with household cleaning substances that contain very irritant chemicals. Keep dust away from the living environment. It is also advisable to pay attention to the types of clothes and fabric we use regularly (cotton is the best choice). Even if the disease seems to go away under the impact of the treatment, prevention measures remain valid permanently. Thus, you can prevent future skin eczema outbreaks or keep the problem under control if you are still fighting it.
