Severe panic attacks are not something to laugh about. Those who have to deal with a panic disorder can feel as if their life is being ruined. It may even result in them needing to see a therapist on a regular basis and/or be on prescription medication for an extended period of time. If you have a panic disorder (or you live with someone who has the disorder), it is important that you learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of severe panic attacks.
The physical symptoms and signs of severe panic
The physical signs and symptoms of panic attacks will be easily recognizable. The most common symptoms include heart palpitations, which can cause you to have severe chest pain. You may experience increased fatigue coupled with severe nausea and spells where you feel as if you might faint. Perspiration may even occur.
The psychological signs of severe panic
The psychological severe panic attack symptoms are what are referred to as the “root of the problem”. It is unlikely that any physical symptoms would manifest if there are no psychological symptoms present. The psychological symptoms are what start panic attacks, or what gets the ball rolling, so to speak.
The most common psychological signs and symptoms of severe panic attacks include irrational fears. In fact, even if you know that your fears do not have any basis at all, it does not mean that they will go away or that you won’t feel them. The types of fear you may experience include fear of insanity (‘going out of your mind’), fear of death or a fear of losing all control. The time it takes for panic attacks to pass can range from second to minutes. Then there are people who claim that when they are having a panic attack, they feel like they are detached or they have a feeling of “unreality”.
Many of the symptoms of severe panic can occur at the same time making some people feel as if they are ‘dying’ or a sense of hopelessness. If your panic attacks are mild then you will tend to experience only a few of the symptoms but if the attacks are more intense then you may experience a lot more and more regularly. As for those people who experience severe panic attacks, they tend to experience 10 or more of the symptoms. The only real solution to severe panic attacks, regardless of the symptoms, is to get medical advice on how to stop a panic attack and treatment as soon as possible.
