Popular opinion is that “soda pop” is by definition unhealthy. But could this, in fact, be a misconception?

In the America, we call our favorite flavored carbonated drinks soda pop. It’s the carbonation process that makes soda pop “fizz.”.

In most soft drinks, carbonation is used to give these drinks their distinctive taste. Diluted carbonic acid is what causes the fizzy sensation, not the bubbles.

Carbonated water, also known as sparkling water, is plain water into which CO2 gas has been dissolved, and is the primary ingredient of most “soft drinks” or “soda pop”.

In the past, these drinks were produced in the home by putting water in a seltzer bottle then adding CO2. Club soda, identical to plain carbonated water, may contain a small amount of salt or trace minerals. Such trace ingredients may cause a somewhat salty taste in home-made soda pop. Add some drops of concentrated flavors and what do you have? Soda pop.

So, perhaps as a football mom, you could provide the team some different flavored carbonated drinks to make sure everyone drinks the amounts that they need and stay well hydrated.The kids will love you; maybe even the coach will love you. This could be a good project for the football booster club to take on.

The extreme temperatures made it a dangerous summer even in Texas, which is used to hot summers; and has made drinking water even more important. But we are not accustomed to day after day of 100-degrees-plus temperatures with high humidity; little infants and the elderly are especially vulnerable.

It is plain that not all so-called soft drinks are the same. So, you and your family might find flavored carbonated drinks to be a good option; maybe your elderly neighbor might, too. After all, we are our brother’s keeper.
