There are many different ways you can help your body with cold prevention such as getting enough sleep, avoiding contact with sick people, building up your immune system, and washing your hands or using anti-bacterial spray /gel. Many people tend to have problems with not getting enough sleep, and after a long stretch of that, end up with a nasty cold. Here are five tips to help you get improve your sleeping habits.

Tip #1: Limit caffeine intake

Even if you have a high tolerance for caffeine, drinking it too close to bedtime can drastically reduce your ability to fall asleep quickly. A good rule of thumb is to avoid caffeinated beverages after 6:00 pm.

Tip #2: Drown Out Your Thoughts

Sometimes it is hard to calm our brains down once we are in bed. Thinking about tomorrow’s to-dos, our financial woes, or analyzing our children’s poor behavior can all keep us from being able to fall asleep. Listening to a soothing cd or watching a familiar movie can be helpful for some people. It helps them to tune out their thoughts and just veg out to the background noise. If these methods are too engaging for you, try turning on a fan or humidifier to distract your thoughts. As a final option, it may be helpful to simply keep a notebook by your bed and jot down any thoughts, concerns, or scheduling items before trying to get to sleep.

Tip #3: Exercise

Getting enough exercise throughout the day prepares your body to be more tired and relaxed and ready to go to sleep at a reasonable hour. However, avoid exercising too close to bedtime as it can get your heart and mind racing and have the opposite affect.

Tip #4: Limit screen time

Sometimes it can be difficult to get to sleep if your brain has been too involved in stimulating activities right before bed. Adjust from computer or television time can be difficult. The best thing to do is pull yourself away from those types of activities as it gets closer to your bedtime. Engage in some of the relaxing activities listed in tip #5.

Tip #5: Engage in relaxing activities

One of the best ways to get to sleep is to read something BORING. Reading can help you calm down, but if you are too involved in the book (think Twilight or Harry Potter) it can just cause more problems because you will stay up too late to finish the story. Some people don’t have that problem, but if you do, grab a few non-fiction books to keep on hand for this purpose. Other relaxing activities such as knitting, just sitting and chatting, playing a calm board game, taking a hot bath, etc. are all great ways to calm yourself down right before bed.

Being told by your doctor that you have borderline diabetes can be a scary thing. It’s a life changing situation. But, every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans are being told just that as the number of diabetes cases continually rises. Borderline diabetes, also known as pre-diabetes, is a condition where a person has higher glucose levels than normal, but not enough to be diagnosed as diabetic. In a person without diabetes, the body will produce insulin to help the cells break down food into energy. Many doctors have stopped using the term borderline diabetes to describe this condition as, in their minds, a person who exhibits the symptoms of pre-diabetes is, in truth diabetic. and they see no real medical reason to obfuscate the diagnosis. They also feel that telling a person that he or she has borderline diabetes will cause the person to not take the diagnosis seriously – since it is only borderline. Others feel that the condition of these patients is more accurately described as insulin resistant or impaired glucose tolerance. Other doctors, however, still use the term and find it useful to keep the distinction between pre-diabetes and diabetes.

For those in the medical field that continue to use the term, borderline diabetes is diagnosed when a person’s glucose level, as determined by glucose tests, fall between 100 to 125 milligrams per deciliter.

Most of the time, a person who has borderline diabetes will see the disease progress to diabetes. However, in some cases, with a change of eating habits and other healthy lifestyle changes, the disease will be reversed.

Many health experts believe that pre-diabetes is a preventable disease. Studies have shown a distinct correlation between the increase in the amount of fast foods that we eat and the new incidences of type II diabetes. Likewise, there is a correlation between our increasingly sedentary lifestyles with increases in the number of people diagnosed with diabetics. Making the defeat of diabetes even more urgent is that a person with pre-diabetes or diabetes is at greater risk for a host of other diseases including heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and more.

Fortunately, scientists and researchers have started to discover and catalog the many risk factors that predispose one towards getting diabetes. They are hopeful that, in the near future, diabetes will be looked upon as disease of the past.

I will try to answer the question – “Is Hoodia a viable way to lose weight?” The industry of weight loss has evolved over the last few years. Today more and more folks are wanting a way to lose weight. For many weight loss is mostly a matter of vanity and for others it is for health reasons. As you might have read, some recent medical studies have linked obesity to harmful health problems such as diabetes, heart problems, backaches, as well as many other minor and major health issues.  In our fast passed society, people want to lose weight as quick and as easily as they can. Pain and/or stiffness in the affected joints are primary indicators of DJD. As the condition continues there can be loss of mobility, particularly when weight-bearing joints such as hips or knees are affected.  In some cases, if the joint is sufficiently worn and the person can no longer walk without severe pain, the joints are surgically replaced with synthetic devices. Of course, one should attempt to manage the condition early on in ones life to avoid the need for surgery.
